Planned shutdown at Trinidad Generation Unlimited; T&TEC customers may be affected

The Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) has scheduled a total plant shutdown from Saturday November 25th to Sunday November 26th, 2023.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), this shutdown is to facilitate critical upgrade work and is expected to take place during the hours of 10:00 p.m. Saturday to 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

T&TEC says the two other IPPs (PowerGen and Contour Global Trinity Power) have, and will make available the required capacity to satisfy the expected load demand of the island during those hours.

However, should these IPPs suffer any loss of generation during TGU’s shutdown, it will result in T&TEC having to shed load and, consequently, a temporary loss of electricity supply to some customers.

T&TEC assures its customers that it will work closely with TGU and its other Independent Power Producers to ensure that, in the unlikely event any loss of supply occurs, the disruption will be minimal.

Customers in Tobago will not be affected by this planned shutdown.
