NSC initiates review of certain aspects of TTPS’ operations

The National Security Council (NSC) has initiated the conduct of an immediate review of the relevant laws, regulations, and practices, surrounding certain aspects of the operations of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

This announcement follows an extra-ordinary meeting of the Council on Monday, to which the Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher; the Chief of Defence Staff Darryl Daniel; and the Director of the Security Services Agency, were invited.

The Council, chaired by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, expressed its own deep concerns and those of the public, about the police-involved shooting incident at Courts Megastore in San Juan last Sunday.

It said the loss of life and injury generated heightened public concern and trauma about the level of violence in the society.

Furthermore, the Council expressed its expectation that a full, fair, and swift investigation be conducted and completed into this matter.
