One NP employee discharged from hospital as the company seeks independent probe

The National Petroleum company (NP), wants an independent probe of the explosion on Friday.

The explosion occurred just before 1 pm on the southern end of NP’s Sea Lots compound where the tank farm is located. NP said in a statement that the explosion occurred when a contractor was on site extracting residual product from a storage tank as part of routine repair exercises.

Two employees were injured.
However one of the injured workers has been discharged from hospital, while the other remains in stable condition in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Port of Spain General Hospital.

While a preliminary report is due Monday, NP’s acting CEO John Gormandy said they would like to have independent probe conducted.
