A call is being made for the finalizing of comprehensive geological, hydrological and topographic surveys of lands and roads, especially in South Trinidad, to better understand existing landslips and encourage new road construction and home building in more stable areas.
The appeal comes from Opposition Member of Parliament for Naparima, Rodney Charles.
MP Charles said in the last month alone, there have been three major landslides within Naparima.
The Naparima MP said there are countless other existing or emerging landslips on Manahambre, Realize, Cipero, Garth, Sugar, Corial, St Croix, and Reform roads among others.
MP Charles also called on the Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, to reveal the results of surveys the comprehensive geotechnical investigations that Minister Sinanan, stated in November 2020, his ministry was conducting, and using the data to design suitable roads.
In a media release the Opposition MP said in June 2021 Minister Sinanan further indicated in parliament that work in that regard had begun.
