Manhunt on for suspect as police unearth remains of girl and find 8 children locked away

Police are on the hunt for a man who is accused of burying the body of a female relative in their backyard a few years ago.

The suspect is also wanted for holding a number of children hostage in the Valsayn household.

The skeletal remains of a girl, believed to be 18-year-old Hannah Mathura, were discovered in a shallow grave at the family home at Butu Road, South Valsayn on Tuesday.

The girl was never reported missing by relatives.

Officers from the North Central Division, led by Snr Supt Smith and ASP Ramharack, went to the residence on Tuesday morning following a tip-off from another male relative.

The police were accompanied by officials from the Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation, who provided the excavator and assisted in digging up the grave.

The police were guided by the male relative, who pointed out the area.
He told officers that the body had been buried there since 2017.

During investigation of the premises, officers discovered eight children locked away in the house.

Reports state that the older boys have only now been allowed out to work in order to help bring money in, and that one of them contacted the police.
