Nursing Association reveals shortage of specialist ICU COVID nurses

There is still a shortage of specialist nurses in the ICU and HDU units in the parallel health care system.

President of the Nurses Association Idi Stuart says that general nurses are tasked with the responsibility of taking care of these critically ill patients who require specialized care.

He maintained that the reason for this, lands squarely in the laps of the RHA’s who still refuse to fill positions with the necessary personnel.

Mr Stuart claimed that the country never had the number of specialist nurses required to properly treat the public.

He noted that while he understands the situation facing the Regional Health Authorities, a longer term view must be taken to addressing the situation.

Mr Stuart also said that there are some 25 to 30 Covid patients at present waiting on a space in the parallel health care system, which is a jump from the 9 persons which health authorities said were waiting yesterday.
