President Christine Kangaloo says it is time that Tobago is given the self-government it deserves.
In her feature address during her inaugural visit to the island todoay, President Kangaloo said she had not addressed the topic in the opening of Parliament because she wanted to first raise it with the Tobagonian community directly first.
She stated, “At this crucial juncture in our country’s history, it is our duty to prioritise the issue of Tobago’s autonomy on a national level.”
She emphasised the need for increased efforts in achieving self-governance for the island. “I believe it is time to thoroughly review and revisit the matter of Tobago’s autonomy,” she asserted, adding that she believes the moment has come for a final legislative push towards granting autonomy to Tobago.
