UNC says Opposition Leader should not apologise for comments on death of Venezuelan baby

The United National Congress has taken issue with editorials in the Express and Guardian newspapers on the 10 February 2022.

The Opposition took issue with reactions in the articles to recent remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar surrounding the tragic killing of baby Yaelvis Santoyo Sarabia.

UNC PRO Dr Kirk Meighoo said that the Persad-Bissessar, had nothing to apologise for, and the political debate on the issue is far from “pointless” or a “distraction”.

He maintained that this approach is the result of the terror and fear that so many citizens feel when they wish to speak out against the Government.

He said the Opposition was simply upholding its duty in commenting on the matter.
