Jussie Smollett released from jail during appeal

The disgraced Empire” star has appealed his five-month sentence and is now a free man.

Only days into his jail sentence, a judge has ruled that Smollett can walk free if he posts a $150,000 bond.

Court officials ordered Jussie Smollett to be released from jail pending the appeal of his conviction for filing a police report about a racist and homophobic attack.

Smollett’s attorneys argued that Smollett could be at risk for physical harm by other inmates if he remains in Cook County Jail.

They also claimed that by the time the appeal process was concluded, he would have served his term.

The 39-year-old began serving his sentence last Thursday, despite maintaining his innocence.
