Controversial billionaire and twitter owner Elon Musk is bringing his business to Trinidad and Tobago.
His satellite internet company Starlink has received a concession to provide a satellite broadband service in T&T.
The ten-year concession was granted to Starlink Internet Services Trinidad and Tobago by the Minister of Digital Transformation Hassel Bachus, effective May 17, 2023.
Starlink received a Type 2 concession for the provision of a public domestic fixed (via satellite) telecommunications network and public domestic fixed telecommunications services on a national geographic scale.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning Minister Bachus said the licence was granted to Starlink Internet Services Trinidad and Tobago Ltd so there are l9cal companies doing it but the official ownership goes back to Elon Musk.
Listing a range of advantages that would come out of the agreement, Minister Bachus disclosed that once the satellite goes up covering the area, there is nowhere in Trinidad and Tobago that there would not be able to get high speed broad band.
