Effective Local Government System Requires Citizens’ Involvemnent, Says Attorney Lennox Sankersingh

There is an admission the local government system needs to get more involvement from people on the issues that affect them in various aspects such as health, education and sports.

The assessment comes from Lennox Sankersingh, Attorney at Law and Former Chairman of the Association of Local Government Authorities.

He was at the time interviewed on the Power 102 Digital’s Afternoon Power Drive Programme on Monday.

Mr Sankersingh said the inclusion of people in the decision making process on various issues is one of the areas which contribute to a more effective local government system.

He said when people are involved in the process they feel more attached to the development taking place in their communities compared to when things happen and they are left out.

Mr Sankersingh revisited what took place in the 1980’s when the local government system was very vibrant with many individuals in several communities demonstrating their passion for national building by being actively involved in positive pursuits.
