CWU puzzled by Digicel’s decision to reduce staff

Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) general secretary Clyde Elder, is shocked by Digicel’s decision to reduce staff.

An Express report states that the Digicel Group has sent home approximately 60 staff members as a result of its “digital transformation.”

However, Elder thinks Digicel has not given the real reason for reducing staff.

Digicel does not have a high headcount in Trinidad, as it outsourced most of its activities and Elder maintained that there move is confusing.

He said that while the workers were not represented by the union, employees losing their jobs should be of great concern to the country.
