Children’s Authority:“Before You Ramajay, Make Sure The Children Ok”

“Before You Ramajay, Make Sure The Children Ok”.

This is an appeal coming from the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, on the protection of children during the Carnival festivities.

In a media release the Authority said Carnival provides children with an opportunity to exercise their right to participate in cultural activities, have a break from their normal routines, play and rest.

However, the Authority said it is also a time of heightened danger for children as they are more vulnerable to neglect, accidents, harm and abuse if there is a lack of proper supervision.

It said children should not be left at home alone but under the supervision of a trusted and responsible adult.

Parents and caregivers are also reminded that it is an offence to exploit children for free labour and force them to work to provide for themselves or to help their families meet every day needs.
