Cell phones found in prison cell

Three cellular phones were seized from the Port of Spain Prison and five firearms found by officers during ongoing anti-crime exercises conducted across multiple Divisions between yesterday and early this morning.

In the latest exercise, an Operation Grandslam exercise conducted in the North Eastern Division between 2 am and 6 am, on Thursday 16th February, 2023, in the Morvant district, resulted in the seizure of one revolver loaded with one round of ammunition along with 13 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and a quantity of marijuana.

The same party of officers, acting on information, then proceeded to the Port of Spain Prison Remand Section and with the assistance of the Prison Service Emergency Response Unit, conducted a search of a prison cell.

The search resulted in officers finding three cellular phones.

A similar search at the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, led to the seizure of one cell phone charger cable being seized from the cell of a prisoner.
