Several police exercises conducted between Thursday 19th and Friday 20th January, 2023 resulted in 15 arrests, the recovery of three firearms, one vehicle, as well as the parts of another, and a quantity of ammunition and drugs.
Officers of North Central Division – Area West conducted an Operation Boots exercise yesterday between 5 pm and 8:30 pm. It involved a search warrant exercise at a home in Curepe which resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man for Possession of Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Possession of Marijuana.
One Smith and Wesson 40-millimetre firearm loaded with a magazine containing nine rounds of 40-millimetre ammunition along with a spent nine-millimetre shell, 217 grammes of cocaine, and 71 grammes of marijuana were allegedly found in the ceiling of the home.
Four other persons were also arrested during the exercise in relation to ongoing investigations.
A sting operation was also conducted in the Division earlier that day after information was received regarding a report of Larceny Motor Vehicle. Officers, who were also using GPS tracking, proceeded to an auto garage located in Bamboo Settlement #2 where they allegedly found a variety of car parts along with the insurance policy and GPS for the vehicle. The items were recovered and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station. Investigations are continuing.
A 42-year-old man from Arima was also arrested for Possession of Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking during exercises conducted in the Northern Division.
Police allegedly found one Glock 27 firearm, five rounds of 40-calibre ammunition, and 1160 grammes of marijuana while executing a search warrant at the man’s residence.
Additional arrests during the exercise included that of a 42-year-old man, also from Arima, for Possession of Marijuana, and another from Malabar in relation to an active investigation. A 21-year-old man from Peytonville who tried to flee from police was arrested in connection with a robbery, in a separate exercise.
Meanwhile, Western Division Task Force officers recovered a Ruger P94 firearm under an overturned boat in Carenage during an exercise conducted on Thursday 19th January, 2023.
They also conducted an exercise the following day in El Socorro which resulted in the discovery of 544 grammes of cannabis allegedly concealed in a derelict motor vehicle, on a bushy lot of unoccupied land on Jhinkoo Lane.
Two persons were arrested in relation to ongoing investigations during an anti-crime exercise conducted between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm yesterday in the Barataria and San Juan districts. The officers also allegedly found 273 grammes of marijuana and 41 grammes of cocaine during a search on 1st Private Road and 2nd Street, San Juan.
Four persons were arrested in the Central Division in relation to current investigations, a stolen vehicle was recovered at Union Hall, San Fernando by officers of the Couva Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Central Division Task Force, and forty-eight 5.56 live rounds of ammunition were allegedly found in an abandoned boat in the Carli Bay area.
Officers of the Eastern Division also recovered two 1000-gallon water tanks hours after they were reported stolen to the Mayaro CID yesterday. Enquiries are continuing and an arrest is imminent.
Additional arrests and seizures can be expected across all Divisions as officers clamp down on criminal activity through the continued execution of intelligence-driven exercises.
