Browne: Caricom to hold emergency meeting on Maduro’s announcement

Caricom is in the process of convening an emergency meeting in the wake of the latest development, this is the information coming from Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Dr Amery Browne.

Commenting on Maduro’s recent announcement Dr Browne told the Power Breakfast Show this morning that Trinidad and Tobago has adopted the same position as Caricom in the situation concerning Guyana and Venezuela.

The issue is properly before a body tasked with the responsibility of judging the outcome of the territorial matter between Venezuela and Guyana and the hope is for a speedy resolution to the issue coming out of that body.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) last Friday told the Latin American country to “refrain from taking any action which would modify that situation that currently prevails” in the Essequibo region that makes up some two-thirds of Guyana.

Dr Browne said that CARICOM is meeting with a view to discussing recent developments.

He said that Caricom and by extention T&T stand in defense of the UN Charter in defense of the integrity of member states
