Bandits beat and rob 2 elderly persons in separate home invasions

Two elderly people were beaten after bandits invaded their home in separate incidents on Thursday night.

In the first incident, around 7.30 pm,a 73 year old woman was in the gallery of her home at Fort George Branch Road, Indian Walk, Moruga, when three bandits armed with cutlasses accosted her.

The woman reportedly struggled with her attackers and suffered wounds to her hands. They robbed her of $1000 and her cellphone before running off. She was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.

Then, at around 8.10 pm a 77-year old man and his 42-year old daughter were watching television in the living room of their Caratal Road, Gasparillo home when he saw two assailants, one armed with a gun, on his porch. The suspects smashed the glass pane of his front door. The father and daughter ran into their bedrooms and locked the door.

The bandits broke down the father’s bedroom door and struck him several times with the gun butt. They also ransacked his bedroom but stole nothing. The suspects then escaped in a white car.

Police are investigating both incidents.
