20 arrested during police crackdown in South

Police exercises conducted in the Southern Division led to the arrest of 20 suspects and the seizure of illegal narcotics.

According to police reports, an intelligence-led anti-crime exercise was conducted between 12 midnight to 5 am on Thursday 7th September, 2023. During the exercise, focus was given to known drug blocks in the Mon Repos area, which resulted in the arrest of 11 suspects for varying drug offences, and the seizure of 40 grams of cocaine.

Officers also conducted an exercise yesterday, during which time three suspects were arrested for possession of cannabis and cocaine. Police seized 2.4 kilograms of marijuana along with a quantity of cocaine. Six persons were also arrested during a warrant exercise in the division.

The exercises were coordinated by Snr Supt Richard Smith, Supt Rampath, ASP Kaikaran, Inspectors Ramsaran and Ramlogan, Sgts Joseph, Mason and Gangoo, supervised by Cpls Mahase and Legendre and included warrant officers, as well as officers of the Task Force Area East and K9 Unit.

Investigation into these matters are ongoing.
