St Augustine MP, Khadijah Ameen, is asking the Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox, to consider food support for families affected by flooding.
The MP is making this call following the announcement by the Minister, that each MP will receive 200 food cards to distribute to constituents for Christmas.
Ameen says the number of flood victims in the St Augustine constituency alone is more than twice that amount and she would like the ministry to be reasonable in issuing food cards to flood victims who require food support, as well as other families who are in need this Christmas.
Ameen says she is willing to meet with Minister Cox, or facilitate meetings with the minister and the affected residents, but is also urging the ministry to access the database in which hundreds of her constituents were assessed for flood damages over the past week to ascertain the needs independently.
