Dietician urges public to eat healthy to combat Covid-19 virus

Eat the rainbow.

This was the recommendation made by Kyrie-Aarti Homer-Kimraj, who is a Dietician at South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) at a Ministry of Health press conference on Monday.

Homer-Kimraj said that there is no specific food or supplement that can prevent or cure Covid-19.

Instead, she said persons should focus on balancing the intake of nutrients from nutrient-dense foods found in the six Caribbean food groups as they have been found to support a healthy immune function.

Homer-Kimraj added that such a diet can help persons maintain overall general health and assist in the management of certain non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic renal failure.

She also urged persons to drink at least 2 to 2 1/2 litres of plain water for adults.

She said persons should also plan meals ahead of shopping and choose locally-produced foods.
