Eight held in Malabar for drugs, firearms

Eight persons between the ages of 20-55 years have been detained by police in connection with with drugs, illegal possession of firearms and robbery-related offences.

Officers from the Northern Division undertook an anti-crime exercise from Monday 23rd to Tuesday 24th September. They were assisted by members of Task Force East, Pinto Police Station, Malabar and Arima Criminal Investigations Departments and the Canine Unit. During the exercises, investigative work and extensive searches were
carried out along All Stars Crescent and resulted in four persons being
held for possession of 1.36 kilogrammes of marijuana and possession of
five rounds of ammunition.

A search of another house in the Malabar district led officers to detain two persons for possession of a firearm and ammunition after they discovered a Glock pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition hidden in a toilet tank.

Two additional suspects were held in connection with recent robberies in the area.

Police are continuing investigations.
