Minister of National Sec. Stuart Young: Major headway being made in fight against crime

Minister of National Security Stuart Young in his contribution to the budget debate 2020 in the Senate outlined critical pieces of legislation which he said are making a major difference in the fight against the criminal element in Trinidad & Tobago. he outlined legislation related to scratch bombs, the private security legislation which has mad progress in a Joint select Committee, Anti gang legislation which Minister Young said has already facilitated the arrest and charges against four persons, Firearm amendment laws, which will again be amended to include more sophisticated weapons usually associated in war zones, and an amendment to the dangerous drugs schedule to include the new “Zesser” pills.

Minister Young also spoke about upgrades to some prisons facilities in terms of ventilation and toilet facilities, CCTV and alarm systems at the Golden groove and Maximum Security prisons. The Minister also identified the government’s successful hiring of four pathologists at the Forensic Sciences center which ensures that for the first time in decades all the positions at the center are now filled.
