56-year-old man drowns in pond at North Oropouche

A quick dip in a man-made pond ended tragically for a 56-year-old father of three on Saturday night.

Frank Mendoza drowned while bathing in the pond at North Oropouche, Sangre Grande.

Mendoza, along with his co-workers Derrick Andrews, 40, of Sangre Chiquito and Jose Paredes, went to Alabaster Gardens, North Oropouche, Sangre Grande, around 8:15pm to offload bush and debris after doing work in Malabar and Sangre Grande.

After completing their work, Mendoza decided to go for a swim in the nearby manmade pond, owned by his boss.
Soon after jumping in the water, Mendoza was observed experiencing some difficulties and disappeared under water.
His co-workers, Andrews and Paredes, tried to assist and Mendoza was eventually found and taken out of the pond with the assistance of other workers.

However, he was unresponsive after CPR was performed. He was then rushed to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
