Young: Opposition in no position to criticise Gov’t on energy sector!

The Opposition is in no position to question or criticise the Government on the energy sector.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young made the disclosure during his contribution in Parliament this morning to the Budget Debate.

He maintained during the time that the UNC led the country’s affairs T&T received no monies due to a drastic drop in the production of oil and precious little done to mitigate issues that arose out of the drop in production.

Speaking in the House of Representatives this morning Young said that there was gross mismanagement by the previous administration of the country’s gas and oil sectors.

He said the PNM Government set out immediately in 2015 to do what had to be done to turn the situation around.

By way of example he sought to explain the Manatee Field agreement with Venezuela.

He said 2.7 TCF is in Trinidad’s waters while 7.3 remains on Venezuela’s side.

He noted that because the PNM did not agree with the position of the Opposition UNC on what was taking place internally in Venezuela, they were able to get permission to drill in the Manatee Field.
