Vanus James: Autonomy failure on shoulders of Tobago’s leadership

On the same issue Economist Dr Vanus James believes the present position in which Tobago has found itself with reference to autonomy falls squarely on the shoulders of the current administration in Tobago.

Back in 2021 James said the draft bill made public by Parliament’s Joint Select Committee for consideration did not allow Tobagonians the equality they desired.

He said the promises in the explanatory note that Tobagonians would be able to make their own choices and manage their own affairs, were blocked by many specific provisions of the bill.

Speaking this morning on the Power Breakfast Show James said that the issue since then is that nothing has been done to effectively push the idea of autonomy for the sister isle forward.

He said that many political forces in Tobago are interested in moving the issue forward.
