Works Minister tells new cohort of Traffic Wardens to be dedicated guardians of safety on our nation’s roads

A little over 100 Traffic Wardens received their Instruments of Appointment as a Traffic Warden I on Friday.

The batch of one hundred and six (106) Traffic Wardens was officially inducted at a Graduation Ceremony held at the Ministry’s Head Office.

In delivering the Feature Address, Senator Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport lauded the newest cohort of Traffic Wardens for “successfully completing the demanding training programme, emerging not only as skilled professionals but as dedicated guardians of safety on our nation’s roads”.

He also advised them to “treat every interaction with the respect and courtesy it deserves and to let your conduct stand as a shining example of professionalism.”

Saying their latest recruitment drive had attracted over 1,400 applications, he said, “We are hoping to have an additional two batches this year because we intend to ramp up the amount of traffic wardens on the road network.”

This, Sinanan claimed, would allow “for more of the policing to be done by policemen, and the traffic wardens can help to manage the traffic.”

Sinanan noted that there were certain areas of traffic management currently being handled by police officers, but said as the traffic warden complement continued to be increased, it will free up many police officers.

He said the ministry had moved one step closer to its staffing ideal of 500 traffic wardens for the nation’s roads.

Fitzgerald Hinds, Minister of National Security also congratulated the graduates on this milestone achievement.

Minister Hinds echoed similar sentiments to that of Minister Sinanan as he challenged the Traffic Wardens to embrace this new role with pride and dignity and be a true representation of honourable law enforcement.
