The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has assured that the work of The Authority is directed by the board of commissioners and as such, no political party has been authorised to undertake any work on its behalf.
In a statement on Sunday, WASA said it was advised that a party campaigning for the August 14 local government elections was claiming to represent it, promising to make arrangements for works to be done and taking credit for work done by WASA.
“The authority was created by the WASA Act and is managed by a board of commissioners who are guided by the act. Accordingly, the work of the authority is directed by the board of commissioners.”
WASA said, “Any work that is being done is solely based on the approval of the board of commissioners and the executive, and on no other basis.”
The authority concluded, “The board of commissioners continues to be guided by its mandate and the requirements of the act and will not allow any unauthorised entity or person to dictate the business of the authority.”
WASA did not name any political party in its statement.
The political parties contesting the elections include the PNM, UNC, National Transformation Alliance (NTA), Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) and the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP).
PDP political leader Watson Duke said his party was not the one being referred to by WASA.
