Venezuelan woman killed, another wounded in St Helena accident

A Venezuelan national was killed in a vehicular accident on Wednesday afternoon.

Thirty-seven year old Yessica Martinez of St Helena, was standing along the Caroni South Bank Road, St Helena in the company of another Venezuelan, Salima Rosahoa around 5:45pm, when they were both hit by a Nissan Frontier.

Reports state that the driver of a blue Honda Vezel which was proceeding east, overtook a white Nissan AD wagon which stopped abruptly to pick up passengers.

The Vezel hit a grey Nissan Frontier headed in the opposite direction, causing the Frontier driver to swerve and slam into the women before crashing into an electricity pole.

Both women were rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where Martinez succumbed to her injuries.

Rosahoa is warded in a stable condition with a broken left leg, arm and injuries to her neck.

Police are investigating.
