Venezuelan man killed, 3-year-old girl wounded in Arima shooting

A Venezuelan migrant was gunned down and a young girl wounded during a shooting in Arima on Tuesday night.

Dead is 28-year-old Gabriel Ernesto.

Officers of the Northern Division Task Force received a report of gunshots near the Orchard Street Housing Settlement on O’Meara Road, sometime around 7 pm and went to the scene where they found a black Nissan Almera with the engine running.

On checking the officers found the body of Ernesto, slumped behind the driver’s side seat, bleeding from gunshot wounds.

In the passenger side seat police found a three-year-old girl who was bleeding from a wound to her forehead.

Arima police went to the scene and took the wounded girl to hospital where she was treated.

Investigators are unable to say what Ernesto’s relation to the child may have been.

Fifteen spent 9 mm shells, two of which had TTPS markings and 12 other high calibre shells which include 5.56 and 7.62 markings were found at the scene.

Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II are continuing enquiries.
