Machel Montano has returned to his roots and released a Calypso track.
Montano released the single entitled ‘Soul of Calypso’ on Wednesday morning on his social media pages.
He will also be performing the song live at the Divas Calypso Cabaret on Thursday 25th January.
Montano wrote:
“Somebody say KAISO KAISO, my new song “Soul of Calypso” 🎵 is out now!!!
AND …. I will be performing it tomorrow night live at the Divas Calypso Cabaret at the Little Carib Theater!!! Big up my bro Tano for helping me produce this musical gem.
Calypso is where I started and I felt a real joy composing and creating this one as I thought about the roots of soca and all of the evolving forms of our music that continue to flow from the Kaiso fountain. Calypso started with Kalinda and Cariso back in the Barrack yards and has evolved to be known around the globe!!!
I’m excited to keep exploring and trying my hand at penning more Kaisos like this….. Stay tuned”
Montano had previously stated that he would be missing from the Carnival festivities this year as he focused on his Carnival studies masters at UTT.
