TT Chamber recommends Gov’t reopens low risk businesses

The T&T Chamber is in full of support of the opening of all construction and its related businesses.

In a statement to media, the Chamber said “We are happy that additional sectors have been prioritized for vaccines with the view to opening in the near future. We are looking forward to seeing the acceleration of the “Vaccinate to Operate” campaign, which would allow for more business sectors to open safely.”
“We are relieved that there have been some relaxations in the restrictions and the borders are finally being opened to our citizens and vaccinated non-citizens.”

They recommend, however, that Government give consideration to the reopening of the low risk businesses and those with high mitigation protocols as soon as possible.
According to the Chamber, “We are confident that the majority of businesses are doing the right thing to protect their customers and employees. We would have hoped to see more opportunities for businesses to leverage the investments in digital infrastructure to facilitate servicing their customers through curbside pickup and delivery services.”

“While there are controls on the formal entry points, there must be continued and enhanced vigilance on illegal border entry to ensure we limit the intrusion of variants.
We support strict enforcement and penalties on those citizens and businesses, which are not complying with the safety regulations.”

The Chamber also thanked the Government for engaging additional private sector organisations and NGOs to support the vaccination campaign and they look forward to upcoming collaboration as stated by the Minister of Health.
