United National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has suggested that she is nearing the end of her political career.
The 71 year old Opposition leader told supporters on Monday night that she is on the homestretch of her political career.
However she vowed to beat the governing People’s National Movement in the August 14 local government election and then in the 2025 general election before taking her leave.
Persad-Bissessar said that after victory at the two elections to be faced within the next two years, one of the other party members “will rise to lead” the party and that she “will be able to rest”.
However, former UNC leader candidate, Vasant Bharath does not believe that Mrs Persad-Bissessar will stand down.
He told News Power Now that any suggestion by her that she is willing to give up leadership of the party is a ruse.
