Valencia teen drowns in river

An 18-year-old Valencia teenager drowned while bathing in a river on Monday afternoon.

Joshua Seemungal of K.P. Lands, was reportedly bathing with a group of friends in the Quare River on Quare Road, Valencia.

However, around 4.55 p.m. Seemungal started experiencing difficulties.
His friends attempted a rescue, but they were not successful.

An alarm was then raised and a passerby assisted in retrieving Seemungal from the river.

The Emergency Health Services (EHS) and Valencia Police officers were contacted and the young man remained unresponsive after vital sign checks.

A district medical officer examined the body and ordered it removed to the Sangre Grande mortuary pending a post-mortem at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex mortuary.
