UWI Mona to increase tuition fees for the upcoming academic year

The Office of Finance of the University of the West Indies is recommending a 4-percent increase in tuition fees for some Faculties on the Mona campus \, in Jamaica for the upcoming academic year.

The proposal comes amid the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are no proposed increases to fees on the Cavehill, Five Islands, Open, or St. Augustine campuses of the University.

Office of Finance of the University of the West Indies reported that the increased fees for Mona were proposed in a 30-page document which is to be reviewed at a meeting of the University’s Council this month.

A report filed by Nationwide News in Jamaica states the meeting is set for April 30.

Outgoing President of the Guild of Students, Sujae Boswell, confirmed that the proposal had been made.

Boswell said the Guild is currently seeking the best outcome for students.
