UWI final year student dies in car crash in La Romaine

An accident along the South Trunk Road, La Romaine has claimed the life of a 22-year-old female student from San Fernando.

Police reports state that Kerissa Maria Dowrich from St Vincent Street, San Fernando died when the car she was in, a blue Hyundai Accent, collided with a van on South Trunk Road.

The accident took place at around 11:30 on Saturday night at the intersection of Alice Street. The driver of the van said the blue Hyundai Accent broke the red light. He slammed into the left side of the car sending both vehicles into the metal barriers at the side of the road.

Dowrich died at the scene.

The young woman was in her final year at UWI and was expected to graduate next week.

Her two friends, who were also in the Accent, Dana Corbie, 22, and a male friend are in critical condition at the San Fernando General

Two passengers in the van were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
