UTT says increased registration fees can be paid incrementally

After receiving flack from students and parents following news of the impending increase on UTT registration fees, UTT President, Professor Prakash Persad, is now proposing a payment system.

He said the registration fee, which has been increased from $440 to $1,200, can be paid incrementally over three years.

Professor Persad said this was put forward during a virtual meeting with students, and he added that over 90% of the students in attendance were in support.

The University reminded that tuition fees remain unchanged, but said there will be an enhanced Student Aid programme and a flexible payment plan beginning September 2021.

There was also a call to action for students to lobby their MPs, as UTT is the only local University which does not have charitable status, meaning members of the public cannot give endowments, which can be used to help offset operating costs.
