Two men to appear in court today for Heights of Guanapo mass killing, shooting

Two men are expected to appear virtually before an Arima magistrate today, jointly charged with the murders and shootings of the Peterkin family which occurred on September 21st in the Heights of Guanapo.

Jalani Rivers, 22, and Jodel Noel, 24, both from the Heights of Guanapo, were both charged yesterday by Insp (Ag.) Simon, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region Two, with four counts of murder and five counts of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and shooting with intent following advice received by Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.

According to police reports, at 12.30 am on September 21st, 2023, police officers responded to a report of loud explosions heard at La Retreat Extension, Heights of Guanapo, Arima.

Upon arrival, police were directed to a house where they observed the bodies of nine people, all suffering from gunshot wounds.

The injured were taken to hospital as they showed signs of life.

Faith Peterkin, 10, Arianna Peterkin, 14, Shane Peterkin, 17, and Tiffany Peterkin, 19, however succumbed to injuries while being treated at hospital.

Further investigations by the HBI Region Two resulted in the two suspects, RIVERS and NOEL, being arrested and charged with offences.
