TTS Scarborough Searches For Missing Persons In Water, Makes Drug Find Maiden Patrol

Following the official commissioning ceremony of the recently acquired Austal Cape-class patrol boats, on Sunday, the vessels were integrated into the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard’s fleet and rostered for patrols.

The TTCG said to this end, both TTS PORT OF SPAIN (CG 41) and TTS SCARBOROUGH (CG 42) embarked on their maiden operational voyages and have been engaged in maritime operations within the Territorial Waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Trinidad and Tobago, as part of the operational roles and responsibilities of the TTCG.

On December 22, the TTCG said it received a report of Persons in Water (PIW) on the East Coast of Trinidad. Based on this information, the Coast Guard said initiated a Search and Rescue operation that involved the use of TTS SCARBOROUGH and has conducted initial searches of the calculated search area for the two missing PIWs.

The Coast Guard has also engaged partner agencies, particularly BpTT, who have aided in the conduct of the SAR operation with their safety boats and other assets.

The TTCG wishes to assure the families of the missing persons that searches are ongoing.

Additionally, while conducting searches for the missing PIWs, TTS SCARBOROUGH (CG 42) discovered a large plastic wrapped bale containing “Plant like” material floating off the East Coast of Trinidad in the search area. The “Plant like” material, which weighed 31.5 kilograms, was handed over to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
