TTPS head of homicide claims there’s been a slight drop in murder rate

There has been a slight drop in the murder rate for the year compared to the same period last year.

That’s according to the Head of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Snr Supt Rishi Singh.

There have been 550 murders for the year so far as of Monday, 18th December, compared to 582 for the same period last year.

However, Singh said the final figure remains a concern to the police.

In a GML interview, he claimed that the decline in murders is as a result of changes in police strategies.

“Those numbers may give testimony to the fact that some of our strategies are in fact bearing fruit, the proactive strategies. The fact that we still have those numbers tells us we still have quite some work to do which we continue to forge on to do,” he said.

Singh maintained that any loss of life is a tragedy regardless of the final figure. The current murder detection rate is 13.5 per cent.
