Three hundred and sixteen batteries from solar powered energy street lights were stolen between June 2021 and May 2022 and seventy-nine poles were impacted.
Following the incident, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission removed the remaining batteries to ensure there was no further loss resulting from theft pending the putting in place of effective security measures to safe guard and protect the assets.
TATEC has advised the redesign of the system has been completed and reinstallation of the lights will be done in stages commencing by May this year and projected to be completed by June 2023.
Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonsalves, told the parliament in July 2018 eighty solar lights were installed along the Manzanilla-Mayaro Road.
