Deyalsingh: Don’t exaggerate Covid rise but take necessary precautions!

Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh says that while there has been an increase in Covid cases and deaths persons must be careful not to over exaggerate the issue.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show this morning he said based on the small increase he felt it necessary to inform the public and encourage the wearing of masks and adherence to hygiene practices to mitigate a surge in cases.

He said this decision was made especially given the fact that many are in the country for the Carnival season from international territories dealing with their own increase.

He said that there is no intention of shutting down the economy and noted the difficulty that many countries had in getting back on their feet after the Covid 19 pandemic.

He maintained that this would not be sustainable again and that is another reason why the Health Ministry is strongly advising the public to vaccinate.

Commenting on the JN.1 variant he said that while it is more transmissible than Omicron symptoms are less severe.
