Traffic restrictions, big screens at Skinner Park for Panday’s State funeral on Tuesday

Traffic restrictions are in place for Tuesday’s funeral for former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday.

Between 6am and 1pm, restrictions will be in place along Todd Street and Park Street, San Fernando. Vehicles proceeding along Park Street will be allowed to turn right only.

A large screen will be also be set up at Skinner Park, San Fernando for viewing of Basdeo Panday’s funeral service tomorrow.

The service starts at 9am at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts before cremation at the Shore of Peace.

According to the Government Communications Division, the livestream at Skinner Park will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Additionally, there will be limited space at the SAPA car park for the public to view the funeral service.

Meanwhile, parking has been made available for the public at Skinner Park Second Grounds – vehicles will only be allowed to enter the grounds for Cipero Street.

Only specially marked vehicles with parking passes will be allowed parking at SAPA and use of the Todd Street entrance to the Skinner Park Second Grounds.

Further, the south bound lane of Rienzi Kirton Highway will be closed off to vehicular traffic between Ruth Avenue and Cipero Street from 6am to 1pm. Traffic heading south along Independence Avenue will be diverted onto Ruth Avenue or Ruth Avenue Extension.

The north bound lane of Rienzi Kirton Highway between Cipero Street and Todd Street will be closed off to vehicular traffic from 7:45am and 9.00am to facilitate the funeral procession. To head north, drivers will proceed onto Cipero Street or Lady Hailes Avenue.
