Tobago man steals wig to clear debt

A 31 year old Landscaper of Main Road Black Rock, Tobago, appeared before the Scarborough Magistrate Virtual Court on Monday 21st June 2022 having been charged for the offense of Shop Breaking and Larceny.
According to Channel 5 Tobago, Sherland Irvine who was arrested on Wednesday 15th June, and was charged on Saturday 18th June 2022, plead guilty when he stood before Senior Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan.
Court documents reported that on Sunday 5th June 2022 the victim secured the Trevor and Camile Early Bird Mini Mart situated at Government House Road Scarborough by locking all doors and windows and activated the alarm attached to the shop and went away.
Around 12:03am on Monday 6th June, the victim returned to the shop, having been alerted that the alarm was triggered, and observed the burglar proof gate open, the door with its glass leading into the shop broken and the shop ransacked.
The victim made a check on her belongings and discovered one Wig, a quantity of grocery items, Cosmetics and one Samsung Tablet totalling the sum of $5,799.50 was missing.
Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department along with the investigator Wpc Foster Bernard after arresting Irvine, executed a search warrant at his Black Rock home, there he handed over, from in his motor vehicle the Samsung Tablet and Cosmetics.
When asked by the Magistrate why he committed the offence, he related that he was owing his bailer who bailed him in a previous matter and he is also owing for his car engine.
Irvine, who in August of 2018 was sentenced to two years hard labour for Attempt Shop Breaking and who was recently released on bail for an alleged House Breaking and Larceny was sentenced to Two Years and Half Hard Labour, Wpc Foster Bernard laid the charge.
