Third suspect in Chancellor Hill shooting found dead

Police have found the third suspect in Wednesday night’s incident on Lady Chancellor Hill, in which a gunman was killed and another wounded after they tried to gun down an off-duty police officer while he jogged.

Officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force (POSTF) found the suspect lying motionless in some bushes off Lady Chancellor Road. Officers conducted a search and found a firearm in his possession.

A second suspect was arrested at the Port of Spain General hospital when he went there to be treated for his gunshot wound.
He remains warded under police guard.

Around 7:15 pm on Wednesday, the off-duty police constable, was jogging along Lady Chancellor when a gold-coloured Nissan Almera licensed PBZ 2192 pulled up on the other side of the road wth three male occupants.

One of the men drew his gun and reportedly opened fire on the police officer, who in return, drew his licensed firearm and fired several shots in the direction of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was wounded by the police officer’s shots.
The other two occupants abandoned the vehicle and ran into some nearby bushes where they escaped.

The shot driver was conveyed to the POSGH, where he succumbed to his injuries.

He was later identified as Franklyn Defreitas of Rich Plain Diego Martin.
