St Helena businessman shot and wounded during rescue from kidnappers

The search is on for four men, who kidnapped a 33-year-old St Helena businessman on Sunday.

The victim is currently in hospital after he was shot while being rescued by police.

Reports state that at around 10.50 am, the man was at his car care business at El Carmen Road in St Helena, when the four masked and armed men drove into the yard in a Nissan Sylphy.

The men bundled the man into the vehicle and drove off.

Police on mobile patrol along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Mausica received the report of the abduction and attempted to intercept the vehicle. There was a reported exchange of gunfire between the abductors and the police during a high-speed chase.

The abductors eventually crashed the vehicle into the wall of a private property along the Arima Old Road.

The men abandoned the vehicle and ran away in different directions down a hill.

Police found the victim in the vehicle with gunshot wounds.
He was taken to the Arima District Hospital before being transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope. He was listed in critical but stable condition up to late yesterday.

Investigators found a firearm magazine and several rounds of 5.56 ammunition in the vehicle.
