Members of Regiment moving to Camp La Romaine to secure Southern borders and assets

A team of soldiers from the TT Regiment will be assigned to Camp La Romaine by the end of this month.

National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds made the revelation on Monday, while speaking at a joint passing-out ceremony for members of the Regiment, Coast Guard and Air Guard at Teteron Barracks, Chaguaramas.

He said soldiers from two companies of the Regiment’s Second Infantry Battalion will be reassigned from the Chaguaramas Heliport by May 31.

Hinds said the decision to move troops to La Romaine was done to better secure the southern part of Trinidad as well as oil and gas assets in the area.

The camp will consist of five buildings with a total floor space of 1,300 square metres that can accommodate 700 soldiers.

The new facility will include walk-in freezers and chillers, a butcher’s space, serving bays, a pantry and modern commercial-type kitchen equipment.

One hundred and fifty-three recruits completed their military induction training.

Hinds encouraged the recruits to operate professionally, with accountability at all times and ‘to put your training into practice for the greater benefit of your colleagues, your organisation and your country.”

He told the recruits to set a shining example by demonstrating integrity throughout their career and urged them not to engage in activities that would bring the TTDF into disrepute.
