Social media weed seller arrested

Police arrested a man suspected of using a fictitious social media account to sell narcotics, after the officers seized a quantity of high-grade marijuana plants, during an intelligence-led exercise at his home on Wednesday.

An intelligence unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), received information in September 2023, which suggested that a person was using a social media platform to sell illegal narcotics. The officers acted on the information and gathered further intelligence, which enabled them to identify a 23-year-old man from Valencia as the user of the social media account.

On Wednesday 18th October 2023, the intelligence unit coordinated an operation, together with officers of the Eastern Division, where a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s Valencia residence. During the search, a quantity of marijuana plants, which exceeded the legal limit, and various high grade marijuana seeds were seized. The suspect also had an assortment of packaging with various labels and branding. A pack containing several coloured tablets were also seized, which was sent for testing.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station.
