22-year-old charged with attempted murder of Deputy Prisons Commissioner

A 22-year-old Santa Cruz man has appeared in court in connection with a shooting outside the home of Deputy Prisons Commissioner Sherwin Bruce.

Emmanuel Joseph was charged with two counts of attempted murder against a prison officer and a female minor, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life.

He was remanded into custody on Thursday by Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor, with the matter adjourned to October 24th 2023.

On the morning of October 11th 2023, two masked men opened fire on a vehicle at Sparrow Street, Barataria.

The officer and minor sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The suspect was arrested later that day.
