Senator Cox to explore the road to recovery post COVID in Latin America and Caribbean forum

Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator Donna Cox, will participate in discussions on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago, at the XII Ministerial Forum for Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Forum, co-organised by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will be held virtually from today January 12th – 14th, 2021 under the theme “Covid-19 Beyond Recovery- Towards a new social contract for LAC.”

Minister Cox will bring to the forefront initiatives in keeping with the Roadmap for Trinidad and Tobago Post Covid-19 pandemic including the continued implementation of the National Social Mitigation Plan and other initiatives highlighted in her 2020-2021 Budget presentation.
In particular, on Day two of the Forum, Minister Cox will present at a Roundtable discussion on “Inclusive digital transformation as a mechanism for productivity, inclusion and resilience.”

The XII Ministerial Forum will provide the opportunity for Ministers of Social Development to discuss experiences in public policies and programmes implemented in their respective countries and will also explore the road to recovery in Latin America and the Caribbean, and will focus on three critical areas for recovery namely social protection and fiscal systems; inclusive digital transformation; and effective governance.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services looks forward to participating in the discussions to bring to the forefront the government’s social intervention initiatives introduced to address the pandemic and to gain insight into new and innovative solutions from participating nations and organisations that will improve social service delivery for citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
