In an update to the fire at the Beetham Landfill, the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited has advised that the one of the Wastewater Treatment Ponds at the Landfill Site has become engulfed by the fire.
According to SWMCOL, at approximately 1:00PM the affected area reignited, causing thick black smoke to be emitted. While landfill site fires are volatile, SWMCOL’s Emergency Response Team lead by CEO Kevin Thompson is onsite, working assiduously to manage the situation.
SWMCOL is reminding residents of the surrounding areas and commuters, particularly those with respiratory conditions, to proceed with caution.
